Book Club Meeting
Please join us as we discuss “Grace Matters: A Memoir of Faith, Friendship, and Hope in the Heart of the South” by Chris Rice. In Grace Matters, we follow the remarkable journey of Chris Rice, a white college student from Vermont, who helped form a thriving interracial community in Jackson, Mississippi. Chris Rice's compelling story explores the topic of racial division and reveals the changes he underwent in the process of attempting to bridge the racial gap that still exists within communities, families and households.

Annual Alvin Ailey Holiday Event, City Center, NYC
Please come out and join CBAA for its Annual Holiday Fundraiser. We will have a pre-reception followed by the world renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Troop performing at the City Center. Fredrick and Teshia Roby '97 will be hosting the first ever CBAA Atlanta Holiday Party at their home. This will be for CBAA members only so if you have not joined please do so as soon as possible. Please join us for an evening of “Education, Entrepreneurship and Networking” featuring Angeles Echols, B.A. in Psychology ’79, Chairman of the Board, Founder and Executive Director of Educating Young Minds, Inc. Angeles. Ms Echols will address the state of urban public school education and her motivation for founding Educating Young Minds, the challenges in starting-up and operating a non-profit organization, and the transition from entrepreneur to non-profit Chairperson and CEO.

CBAA LA will feature “Ray” featuring Jamie Foxx. “Ray”depicts the life of Singer Ray Charles, from his humble beginnings in Georgia, where he went blind at the age of seven, to his pre-fame life touring the South, and on to his career as one of the most enduring, inimitable performers in modern music. Pre-production buzz is whispering about Oscar possibilities for Jamie Foxx in this career-defining role.

Annual Members Meeting/Strategic Planning Session
CBAA will conduct its annual Member meeting in the NYC area. This meeting is a must attend for all dues paying members. We will propose a vision statement, and strategies to direct CBAA’s focus and activities for the next 5-7 years. We will present and vote on proposed changes to CBAA’s bylaws, discuss relevant topics and formulate working committees. Professor James Turner will be in attendance to facilitate discussions on the Africana Rebuilding activities. Vice Provost Robert Harris will also discuss Cornell diversity and recruitment efforts. You must be an active member on the day of the meeting to vote! It is imperative that we all attend this meeting!
